Airport
The Cheddi Jagan International Airport at Timerhi is some 50km inland from Georgetown (capital). At present airlines flying to Guyana include:

North American Airlines
Universal Airlines
Caribbean Star Airlines Ltd.
Liat Airline

Money
The unit of currency is the Guyana dollar (G$) which sells at about 200 to one US dollar. Money can be legally exchanged at a bank or a cambio.
International credit cards are not widely accepted though hotels generally do so. Most local transactions are by cash. There are ATMs but these respond only to local cards.

Electrical power
Combinations of both 110V, 220V, 50Hz and 60Hz are found though 110V 60Hz is slowly becoming the standard. Blackouts and brownouts are not uncommon.

Metric system
This is the new standard but is only slowly being adopted in some areas. Gasolene is now sold in litres.

Local travel
Local travel is mostly by taxi and cheaper minibus taxis (route taxis). Taxis charge a around G$300 per stop for journeys around the central part of Georgetown. Travel to the airport (outside town) costs around G$4,000 by taxi.
